Q.1.   Do horses have to be registered with Wetherby’s?

A.1.   Yes - as you are aware all horses must now have a passport by law, however, for a                 horse to race under the “flapping rules” it must also be registered with the THOROUGHBRED REGISTER at Wetherby’s. A passport that only covers the horse for the new rules for DEFRA is not acceptable on it’s own merit, it must be accompanied with the Throroubred Registration Passport.

Q.2    Will I have to supply any papers?

A.2    Yes - the first time that the horse will race the papers will be requested & checked.

Q.3    Will my horse be vetted?

A.3    There are spot checks from a vet, your horse may be chosen.

Q.4    Do the jockeys have their own colours?

A.4    No - it is up to the owners to supply the colours for the jockey & the owner will detail             the horses colours that it is to race in on the entry form.

Q.5    How many races are there?

A.5    There are around 4 races per Race Meeting. Each race usually begins on the half                   hour. If the Meetings are for Special Days there are more than 6 races.  These                       sometimes include pony racing and some local horses for specified confined races that              do not have to be thoroughbred registered.  If anyone wishes to enter these particular            races they should find out well in advance how to qualify as it may mean that they                 will have to ride beforehand at a specified ride.

Q.6    Will I be able to send my horse to a Registered Trainer after it has raced at the                      “flapping”?

A.6    No - once your horse has raced on a “flapping course”, it will no longer be able to run              under the Jockey Club Rules.
